Mathematics

The study of mathematics is mandatory from Kindergarten to Year 10.

By studying mathematics, students learn to work mathematically – developing fluency, understanding, problem-solving, reasoning and communication skills.

The syllabus consists of the following strands:

  • number and algebra
  • measurement and geometry
  • statistics and probability.

Mathematics - Numeracy

Mathematics is best learned in an atmosphere of engagement and challenge. The Mathematics program at Dapto Public School provides children with opportunities to learn to:

  • describe and apply patterns and relationships
  • reason, predict and solve problems
  • calculate both mentally and in written form
  • estimate and measure
  • interpret and communicate information presented in numerical, geometrical, graphical, statistical and algebraic forms

The K-6 Mathematics Syllabus ensures that children progress through sequential activities in the areas of Number, Space and Geometry, Patterns and Algebra, Measurement, Data and Working Mathematically.
