Travel to school
Planning your school travel is easy. There are a range of safe transport options to get to our school. Check our location map, driving details and public transport options to help make the journey to school safe and easy.
Location map
We are located at 48-66 Sierra Drive, NSW 2530 HORSLEY.
Driving and parking
The start and end of the school day are busy times for pedestrians and drivers outside schools.
When driving and parking near our school, please:
- ensure you park safely in school zones
- follow speed signs
- do not make U-turns or 3-point turns outside the school
- use our school crossings to safely cross the road
- be patient during busy drop off and pick up times around the school to help keep everyone's safety a priority
Please discuss with your children about how to be safe when:
- Walking to school
- In the car
- Waiting for, travelling on, and getting off the bus
- Riding bikes to school
At Dapto Public School we have a lengthy 'kiss and drop' school pickup and drop off area, which is located next to Fairwater Drive in Horsley. Cars wait patiently in a line and drop their children close to one of the school gates when they reach the front of the que. Alternatively children can also enter the school via our front entrance gate at Sierra Drive.
Catching the bus
All students in Infants are eligible for free bus travel to and from school. Primary students are eligible for free bus travel if the distance travelled to school is greater than 1.6km. School Opal Cards must be shown to the bus driver. Students are to TAP ON at the reader on the bus as they board, and TAP OFF at the reader as they exit the bus. Please see the link below to register for a travel pass (Opal card).
If a student's School Opal Card is lost or stolen they are to ring Transport for NSW on 13 15 00 and request a replacement. This can take up to two weeks - while waiting for the replacement card, the student should use a Child/Youth Opal Card or pay a fare.
When travelling on buses, students must observe the NSW Department of Transport Code of Conduct to protect their own safety, and the safety and comfort of other students. School Opal Cards may be withdrawn as a result of poor behaviour. The school appoints senior students as bus monitors. Their role is to assist the bus driver in keeping everyone safe. Monitors report any incidents of inappropriate behaviour to the Deputy Principals.
Any bus enquiries including bus routes and lost property should be directed to Premier Illawarra on 4271 1322.
