The study of mathematics is mandatory from Kindergarten to Year 10.
By studying mathematics, students learn to work mathematically – developing fluency, understanding, problem-solving, reasoning and communication skills.
The syllabus consists of the following strands:
- number and algebra
- measurement and geometry
- statistics and probability.
Mathematics - Numeracy
Mathematics is best learned in an atmosphere of engagement and challenge. The Mathematics program at Dapto Public School provides children with opportunities to learn to:
- describe and apply patterns and relationships
- reason, predict and solve problems
- calculate both mentally and in written form
- estimate and measure
- interpret and communicate information presented in numerical, geometrical, graphical, statistical and algebraic forms
The K-6 Mathematics Syllabus ensures that children progress through sequential activities in the areas of Number, Space and Geometry, Patterns and Algebra, Measurement, Data and Working Mathematically.
